A poster I designed for This Is My Constitution – I also designed the logotype for the company, Ungovernable Bodies, that you see at the top of the poster.
This Is My Constitution is a theatre event that is being held in Meade’s winebar as part of the Trash Culture Review. The piece consists of two parts, the first part is centered around the wording in the Irish constitution which says “‘by her life within the home woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved” and in 1937 many women campaigned to have the wording changed, to no avail.
This Is My Constitution draws on archival material of actual letters of the time to highlight a piece of Irish history which remains relevant today.
The second part of the show is by Ann Rossiter, one of the foremost pro-choice campaigners in Ireland, who examines modern day concerns about the constitution in her funny and thought-provoking performance which has toured seperately in ireland and the UK.
A unique piece drawing on previously-unused archive material;
a work of recovery, allowing forgotten voices to speak;
a celebration of Irish women’s history and of Irish women today;
a shocking comedy; a shocking tragedy; a challenge.
